Danny Cachero

Theo “Danny” Cachero, Chapter NV3, spent over 10 years as a PASS member, two of which he served as a PASS representative. In total, he served the FAA for 27 and two months, officially retiring from the FAA last November. But who’s counting?

While residing in Hawaii, Cachero was encouraged by a Hawaii field inspector to apply for a maintenance inspector position in Las Vegas. This was enough to convince him to take a chance. “It sounds so simple, but all I needed was that extra push and I’m so grateful for the opportunity looking back. The rest, as they say, is history.”

By 1989, Cachero had packed his bags and officially moved to Nevada so he could begin his work at the Las Vegas Flight Standards District Office (FSDO). “I’m a passive observer, but a ‘get the job done’ kind of worker,” said Cachero. Although he had opportunities to go elsewhere, Cachero remained in Las Vegas as a principal maintenance inspector for the duration of his career.

To send him along his way to a well-deserved retirement, PASS’s Western Pacific Regional Business Agent (RBA) Steve Steinhoff took Cachero out to dinner with family and friends to celebrate and presented him with a commemorative PASS watch and framed letter. During the dinner, Steinhoff considered it a true pleasure to meet Cachero’s wife and daughter. “Clearly, Cachero’s wife was very proud of her husband and his service to the FAA,” said Steinhoff. “I could tell Cachero’s daughter, Alexa, was equally as proud of her father, indicating that—due to her father ‘s constant encouragement—she would be applying to medical school immediately after finishing college.”

Cachero’s son, Christian, was unable to attend the event due to his work schedule. However, much like his father, Christian has become extremely fond of aviation. “Christian graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Air Traffic Management from Arizona State University, specializing in air traffic control,” said Cachero, with a wide smile. “He’s also an FAA certified flight dispatcher. He’s after my job!”

Some might think that, after spending over 20 years on the job, Cachero might miss it at little bit. That, however, is definitely not the case. “To tell you the truth, it has been absolutely great!” exclaimed Cachero, speaking about his retirement. “So good in fact that I couldn’t even tell you what time, day or even month it is. Needless to say, I’m thoroughly enjoying my retirement. It’s the best job I’ve ever had!”
