Fatigue

Fatigue is an issue that can affect any employee in any workplace. Shift workers can be especially vulnerable to unsafe conditions where fatigue is a factor. It is critical that PASS members be aware of their fatigue level and how to mitigate it while protecting the safety of the National Airspace System or conduction inspections on highly technical aircraft and systems.

  • Sleep, fitness and nutrition all play crucial roles in fatigue mitigation.
  • In a 24/7 operation, no one is immune to fatigue.
  • Operational supervisors, managers and union facility representatives have a shared responsiblity to help mitigate fatigue risk by: managing schedule development and implementation; employing and supporting recuperative breaks; and supporting self-declaration of fatigue.
