PASS has recently learned of a vehicle safety issue that has been addressed by the agency in this Safety Emergency Notice (SEN). The issue involves vehicles where equipment is not secured and could become a projectile and seriously injure employees.
The SEN states that FAA employees have experienced and reported injuries as a result of operating on-road vehicles without the use of necessary cargo securement equipment and devices, such as netting, ropes/cords, straps, etc. The notice requires that local management ensure employees properly secure and restrain cargo and equipment in all on-road vehicles used for FAA business. If cargo securement equipment is not available, employees should refrain from operating the vehicle until they can be sure they are suitably protected.
If you have an issue, please reach out to your regional vice president and tell them about the status of vehicles used in your service area. It is essential that we are diligent in monitoring use of the vehicles as well as guaranteeing employee safety.
