PASS Member Charles Murray Honored

Last week, Charles Murray, an aviation safety inspector and member of Chapter NV3, was presented with a double honor. He received a plaque in recognition of his 50 years of Public Service to Aviation and was awarded the Wright Brothers’ Master Pilot Award. The Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award recognizes pilots who have demonstrated professionalism, skill and aviation expertise by maintaining safe operations for 50 or more years. In order to receive the award, Murray had to be recommended by three individuals. One individual who submitted a recommendation was Steve Steinhoff, a member of Chapter CA3 and fellow aviation safety inspector, who was proud to do the honor.

“I first met Charles, or ‘Chuck,’ in 2001 and have known him always to operate aircraft in a safe and professional manner,” said Steinhoff. “His reputation as an air carrier inspector was impeccable throughout the country. He is known for being transparent, honest and fair to all applicants. Even applicants who did not pass spoke highly of Chuck. They knew that if they did not pass, they did not meet his standard, which was that of the FAA’s.”

Murray previously served as a flight safety officer (FSO) for the Navy and has always been active in the world of aviation. “Whether in a leadership role or a piloting role, it was always clear that many were impressed with the relative ease and confidence with which Chuck relates to a variety of situations within the office and the cockpit,” added Steinhoff. “He possesses the necessary qualities and attributes required of such a recognition,” said Steinhoff.

Murray was presented with the awards at the Hiller Aviation Museum, an event that Chapter CA3 member Karen Arendt helped organize. All of PASS congratulates Murray on this well-deserved recognition!
