OPM Cybersecurity Resource Center

This week, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced that it has established a new cybersecurity resource for those impacted by recent data breaches. The new verification center will assist individuals who believe their data may have been taken but have not received a notification letter from the government.
OPM reports that the notification process is still underway and the agency is sending out approximately 800,000 letters each day. The mailing is scheduled to be finished in the next two weeks. If you have not received a letter by the middle of December, this means that the government could not identify a valid address for you or records indicate that your Social Security information was not compromised.
The new verification center allows those who believe their data has been taken but have not received notification to provide an address so OPM can confirm your information and send you a letter if necessary. Once information is submitted through the verification center, individuals will receive a response in approximately two to four weeks. Please note that the verification center can also be useful for those who have received a letter informing them that their information has been compromised but have lost the PIN code allowing them to sign up for free services provided by the federal government.
You can access the verification center here or call 866.408.4555 to speak to an agent. Please also regularly check the OPM main website for additional information.
