Cybersecurity Breach: Important DOT Information

As recently reported, there has been a cybersecurity breach at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) affecting systems and data that may have exposed the personal information of current and former federal employees. PASS has learned from the Department of Transportation (DOT) that DOT employee data, including the FAA, has potentially been compromised.

As a result of the breach and the ensuing investigation, OPM is in the process of notifying approximately 4 million individuals whose personally identifiable information may have been compromised. Notification will be sent out beginning June 8 and continue through June 19 by email and U.S. mail.

The OPM will offer affected individuals credit monitoring services and identify theft insurance through CISD, a company that specializes in identity theft protection and fraud resolution, for a period of 18 months. Employees whose information was affected will receive a notification directly from CSID. For more information about steps you can take to protect your identity and avoid becoming a victim in these instances, please visit Federal Trade Commission’s website at www.consumer.ftc.gov. Information specific to the OPM cybersecurity breach can be found at www.opm.gov.
