Statement of PASS National President on North Texas Metroplex

PASS National President Mike Perrone released the following statement at a press conference today announcing the successful implementation of the North Texas Metroplex Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) project and the efforts of FAA employees represented by PASS:

“On behalf of the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, I am honored to be here today to recognize the successful implementation of the FAA’s new North Texas Metroplex airspace plan, and to join FAA Administrator Michael Huerta and all those here to acknowledge the hard work and collaboration behind the effort.

“I want to thank Administrator Huerta for emphasizing the benefits of the Metroplex plan, including streamlining services, reducing emissions and contributing to overall modernization efforts through the Next Generation Air Transportation System. I’d like to take a moment to highlight the work of FAA Mission Support Services and Flight Inspection Services employees represented by PASS and the overall collaborative effort.

“Mission Support Services and Flight Inspection Services employees are committed to supporting pilots and controllers with countless flight safety products and services. Among other things, these employees develop, flight check, integrate, chart and maintain the FAA’s 20,000 conventional and 14,000 Performance-Based NextGen Instrument Flight Procedures and the thousands of en route airway segments.

“These employees have made incredible contributions to the North Texas Metroplex project and they are joining with other FAA safety professionals and stakeholders to bring NextGen to the next level here in Texas and throughout the country. Working hand-in-hand with all stakeholders, Mission Support Services employees evaluated and developed for integration into the National Airspace System 155 new and amended instrument approach procedures, standard terminal arrivals and departure procedures serving airports throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. These efforts required over 100 Flight Inspection Services flight hours to fulfill our commitment to the North Texas Metroplex project. In fact, the North Texas Metroplex instrument flight procedure requirements are just a snapshot of the 3,500 Terminal Procedure Publication and countless en route airway chart additions and changes nationally —an FAA record.

“Of course, this work would not be possible without the dedication, professionalism and expertise of PASS-represented FAA employees and all FAA safety professionals. As the FAA continues to move forward with such major airspace redesigns across the country, it is critical that sufficient Mission Support Services and Flight Inspection Services staffing is in place. Without the collaborative efforts of all employees, I am not sure we would be here recognizing such a milestone today.

“Thank you for the opportunity to share with you the complex work of our Mission Support Services and Flight Inspection Services employees and their contributions to the FAA’s North Texas Metroplex project and the National Airspace System. PASS is proud of them and their work that is so critical to the safety of the flying public.”
