PASS Welcomes Passage of FAA Reauthorization

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Tom Brantley, president of the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS), the union that represents aviation safety inspectors and systems specialists

at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), issued the following statement following final passage of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 by the House and Senate.

"For nearly five years and through 23 extensions, PASS has worked tirelessly to ensure that, among other safety-related initiatives, this legislation restores fairness to the contract negotiations process between the FAA and its unions; addresses staffing issues among its aviation safety inspector and systems specialist workforces; enhances FAA oversight of the airline industry and critical aviation safety equipment; and continues investment in vital infrastructure so desperately needed to ensure the safety of the flying public."

"Although the legislation contains changes to the Railway Labor Act that are harmful to unions affected by those changes, there are many other provisions that have been needed for several years. It is time to move forward and try to build a safer, more efficient aviation system for America."
