PASS Supports Legislation Countering Impacts Of Sequestration

Today, the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS) voiced its support forthe Essential Employees Act of 2013, which was introduced yesterday by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.).

The legislation, which is cosponsored by eight additional senators, would end most furloughs for the Air Traffic Organization (ATO) and Aviation Safety (AVS) workforces, including systems specialists and aviation safety inspectors.

Furloughing of the critical FAA workforce will lead to delays in restoration of equipment and slow the certification and approval process for airlines, airline manufacturers and pilots. PASS members are vital to ensuring the safety and efficiency of this country’s aviation system, and PASS fully supports any legislation intended to keep these essential employees on the job.

PASS continues to examine various pieces of legislation aimed at ending the sequestration or lessening its impacts.
