PASS Texas Member Talks Privatization With Congressman

With the FAA reauthorization debate underway, PASS has been asking members to contact their members of Congress and ask them to oppose privatization of the air traffic control member. Chapter TX1 member Tim Lindsey took these efforts one step further when he invited his representative, Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas), to a site visit at the System Support Center (SSC) in Waco, Texas. Lindsey worked with others at his facility, including controllers, who oppose privatization and want to see the air traffic control system remain a responsibility of the federal government.

Bill Does Not Include Language to Privatize the Air Traffic Control System

Today, the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS), the union that represents systems specialists and inspectors at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is encouraged that the Senate version of the FAA reauthorization legislation (S.2658) does not include language that would privatize the country’s air traffic control system.

FAA Unions Tell Congress Not to Privatize the Air Traffic Control System

Today, the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS), along with six other unions representing thousands of employees at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), joined together in opposing the privatization of this country’s air traffic control system. Specifically, the federal labor unions rejected language in the Aviation Innovation, Reform, and Reauthorization (AIRR) Act (H.R.4441) that privatizes the U.S. air traffic control system into a not-for-profit corporation. In addition to PASS, the letter was signed by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), National Association of Government Employees (NAGE), National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE), and Professional Association of Aeronautical Center Employees (PAACE).

Article 13 Update: NAS Voice Switch

As previously reported, the FAA has been developing a new voice switch for the National Airspace System (NAS). The new voice switch, which is being built by Harris Corp., is called the NAS Voice Switch, or NVS. Currently, the NVS is scheduled to be deployed to 80 sites across the NAS, including all ARTCCs, TRACONs, and large ATCTs.
