At the start of the 2014 Labor Day weekend, Mike Perrone, national president of the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO, released the following statement:
The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS) congratulates Christopher Hart, acting chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), on his nomination by President Obama to serve as board chairman.
On behalf of the 11,000 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employees represented by the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS), I urge the denial of Norwegian Air International’s (NAI) application for a foreign air carrier permit. The convoluted scheme to register the airline in one country, contract pilots from another, and operate out of yet another is, quite simply, a recipe for disaster. NAI’s plan will no doubt create regulatory headaches as this country attempts to monitor the use of such an airline in this country. More importantly, the concept robs this country of its ability to participate in fair competition.
The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO, is deeply saddened at the passing of Congressman Jim Oberstar, a true defender of aviation safety and the federal workforce. For decades, Congressman Oberstar championed employees of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), consistently fighting for increased aviation safety and oversight as chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
The Los Angeles International Airport ground stop that caused hours of delay could have been far worse had Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) systems specialists not been on the scene, according to the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS), the union representing these technical employees.
This week, members of the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS), the union representing systems specialists, aviation safety inspectors and other aviation professionals at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), are in Washington, D.C., to meet with their members of Congress regarding FAA funding, staffing and modernization.
